My little monster has showed some serious interest at “various fields” recently… From tearing tissue into tiny pieces and let it “fly in the air” (normally at restaurant & I have to apologize to the staff who get the place cleaned every time he did that
could be rather boring for him now. He is moving forward and found something new which please his curiosity (at this moment). He wants to READ?! ok “reading” is not new to him because he has been exposed to flash cards and baby books as early as 3 months old. He wants to”read” independently without sitting on my lap and flipping for him. Hey, this little guy can flip pages very well…
~ XJ reading independently… ~
~… into pieces …~
I’m very glad if he is learning to be independent but I’m sure he is more into making trouble for his mommy whenever he sees me reading in the couch. Most probably he is thinking I’m too relax enjoying a book with coffee there
So he squeezes & tears the pages of the very lovely book! I guess he enjoys the sound when tearing… You know to people love collecting books this is a guilty. I’m quite heartache when a very nice pop-up book got spoilt by him too. My mom said we never did that when we were little even without telling not to do so. With him breaking this, tearing that it definitely burn a hole in my pocket gradually. Thus, I start keeping home everything coupons for saving a bit here and there. In the meantime, I hope XJ will listen to me not to spoil anymore books…

Aiyor…!!!! Sayang, all the nice books. Buy the cheap ones…till he has gone past this phase. They also like to pick up a pen and koreng-koreng all the pages…
yes I bought some cheaper one to let him “read” now & yeah I can foresee that too

Dora, last time my girls were also tearing books. I reprimanded them not to do for several times, If I ever saw them doing, I would beat their palms to show my disapproval on this action. I would keep reminding them that I want the book in condition. I guess this help. Hehehe! Hope you won’t find me too abusive.
haha Yan, u r not abusive. Myself is a strict parent when come to teaching a child & I think it’s necessary or else they won’t accept what we said when grow up. I straight beat his little palm when he tears but he seems nothing…
July 26th, 2010 at
haha…..poor story book. Must give him those hardcover type.
that’s the hardcover in fact I bought all hardcover books for him oh I think u mean the cardboard pages
July 26th, 2010 at
Haha… Ally is exactly the same when it comes to wanting to read what we are reading. She can never leave me alone. I guess kids at this age now are very curious.
About the tissue… I have to stop giving her tissue to play already coz now she suddenly thinks its food and purposely puts it in her mouth to eat although getting stern looks from me!
So sayang about those books…
we give him tissue is to calm him down ‘coz nothing seems to get him occupied except tearing tissues but slowly he finds it’s no more interesting & move on to grab fork, spoon, glass & food now

I’m lucky that Gwen doesn’t have this habit of tearing books. It’s normal coz most kids do so.
Gwen is good girl

Kids love reading but they don’t let us sit relax and read, my little boy licks his fingers before turning a page it’s so funny, he has been watching mum do it and copied her.
haha kids love to follow what parents do so we better watch out what we are doing in front of the kids

July 27th, 2010 at
hmmm, not good tearing books like that, you have to start do something or else you’d have headache when he goes to school later~~ :p
I’m instilling all the good values into him but you know little kid won’t just simply listen & follow
July 27th, 2010 at
Get those board books so that cannot tear! My boy also always tear books so I also don’t really dare to let him turn by himself. BUT so nice can sit there quietly and read.
I guess he sure will do something “new” for the board books…
July 27th, 2010 at
Reading (flapping) books is a good habit. It’s never too early to introduce children to book. How about giving him a hardcover book? He won’t be able to tear it unless he’s Incredible Hulk, lol!
Btw, my son doesn’t tear books. He chews on them… Sounds worst, huh?
yes I like kid loves reading like myself hehe
XJ bites it too

Re: Bridge,
yes, only on the opening ceremony, we were allowed to walk on it. After that, it is for traffic only.

July 27th, 2010 at
My kids love reading too and they also not too sayang the books… very opposite of me… so what I did is, I told them all books are MINE!!! Hahahaha! They can take, they can read, but they have to take good care of them. Else they won’t be allowed to touch the books. :p But of course, XJ still young. Have to educate him slowly. Kids always give us new challenge everyday.
your kids are good as they listened to mommy
yeah the little ones just love to challenge adults every single second!

Tearing paper sounds so nice to kids this age - do you have any board books (the kind with cardboard pages)? Maybe save the regular ones for when you are reading to him, and get some board books for him to play with in his crib =)
yeah I’ll get him some cardboard pages books & see what he gonna do with it later…
July 28th, 2010 at
it’s good to instill reading habit in children at young age. i’m thankful that all my kids dont have the habit of destroying books.
your kids are good…
July 28th, 2010 at

July 28th, 2010 at

July 28th, 2010 at

wuah…u exposed him to book as early as 3 months old ahh. emm…maybe i need to do somethg to inculcate the habit of reading to my bb too!!
yes really heartache seeing those pages torn like that
this is 6th sense…
yeah I blogged abt that too last time & it’s good to expose ur lil Stuart some color cards as starter. I use salaphone tape to stick back the pieces…
July 28th, 2010 at
Haha..moving forward is always good. But can be “destructive”…as far as children are concerned.
yeah gotta have strict guidance along the way…
July 28th, 2010 at
I learnt my lesson from my girl. So now I giving hard cover/pages to my son. Let him try to destroy them. hahahah!
yeah will buy him those cardboard pages books later.
July 29th, 2010 at
I think little ones like the sound of tearing pages indeed. Mine would stand and tear pages out of magazines and laugh while doing so!
yeah they simply enjoy it & the laugh part is definitely cute although we were mad at that time
July 29th, 2010 at
dora, finally i updated my blog…phew! go check out when u’re free…
meanwhile, y not try to get him board books or those washable books…so he cant tear those off…a bit pricey, but i thk it’s more suitable for his age now
reading is good! keep it up XJ!
->that was my careless ‘coz I never thought that he will go & tear it but yes I have a few cardboard books & will let him read/play with. So June, the World Cup fever is finally over huh…

July 29th, 2010 at
Wah, baby so guai wor….read independently
-> hehehe
July 29th, 2010 at
He is showing his “manly” side by destroying!!!
-> most probably yes but do you mean a man is the destroyer by nature???

July 30th, 2010 at
ouch! i am a book lover n that definitely isn’t a happy sight for me.
but i guess children gotta learn to appreciate at some point,
no worries, you take your time to keep him on the path.
you will do just fine. =)
I’ll teach him to respect books
August 5th, 2010 at

Wahhh… Baby XJ can sit already??? Heheheee… Haven’t been here for a while… Hope you’ll find a solution with his activity up there.
~> You’ve been loooooong time “neglecting” us here…. (just kidding). XJ can sit months ago & now he can stand steadily without support + learning to walk
