~ XJ’s saving passbook & coin box ~
This should be posted much earlier but I forgot… I have opened a saving account for XJ right after my confinement to deposit all those angpow monies for him & our money for him every month. I decided not to tell XJ about this saving ’til he reaches 18 years old ‘coz I’m afraid he may mis-use the money
Guess everyone agree with me money is important & you’ll only feel secure today if the financial is stable, right? So I think it’s better to reserve some money from now for his future. Hopefully,… at least we won’t going mad searching for help when there’s a need. As time goes by, I really want to teach him the importance of saving. Oh yeah the tiger coin box is a free gift automatically when a kiddy account is opened. It isn’t so kiddy but it seems PC-savvy since he is standing beside a PC!
~ My Thought ~
OK what about the little excited…? That’s my thought, my write up to Parenthood magazine is published at “From Mothers To Mothers ” column. Yahoooo… 3 letters to be selected every month & I was one of them. Only one short last sentence has been deleted from the content & the rest is the original. But I spelled Santa “Claus” wrongly (they didn’t notice), that’s my niece told me so she can be my personal editor! hehehe… I’m so happy & excited when I flipped it & I saw mine
I tried it ‘coz I love the title ” What Is The Best Lesson To Teach Your Child This Christmas? ” This is my first attempt & I feel so great that mine was picked. It’s not entirely just an imagination but that’s actually what I’m gonna want XJ to appreciate the gifts he is receiving! Wondering what is the prize they gonna give me, surely it won’t be any diet pill?… I’m still waiting the notification letter…

Teaching a child the importance of saving is good!
yeah I hope XJ will understand from young age

A great idea starting a savings plan for your baby early!
I did it too for my son early on.
yeah it should be started when the kid is still small
December 6th, 2009 at
i used to have this lil bank
A smile from SJ =)
so money must grow a lot now huh!
December 6th, 2009 at
Yes, very good! Should also buy an education policy (insurance). People say the money will be so small when the kid(s) grow(s) big…but something is better than nothing. Better than doing nothing and grumble and complain…and curse and swear at the government, everybody but themselves!
yeah I’ll have one combination of education+medical card+saving for XJ. yeah something is better than nothing
December 6th, 2009 at
agree with you. we have save for sona too.you can also consider saving in porperty Dora..
u mean invest in property right? yeah I love to!
December 6th, 2009 at

How wonderful that you have opened your son a savings account. My children all had one and that is how they learned to save. I thought your article was simply wonderful. Well written. I always taught my children that Santa Claus and his many helpers were always watching and especially liked seeing children helping others out.
I foresee money is much important in near future… I’m glad Cheryl ‘coz u have actually read my write-up, thx

Yes, I agree with you, it is important to educate our little ones the importance of saving. We have opened a saving account for Xixi too.
yeah saving is important for our little one!

We also believe in the importance of teaching kids to save money from young. Chloe also has her own account since she was a baby and her free coin box is a camel
Congrats on your article being selected!
So Chloe has an acc in Ambank, a camel is cuter! Thx ChloeMummy

Congrats on being selected by Parenthood magazine! Magazines usually give out cash awards like a gift card. It would be funny if you they did give you diet pills : ). Just send them back with a note: I’m confused..not sure what you’re trying to hint here.
Thx Rosebelle. Hehehe… I’ll remember the note if they really give me diet pills
December 7th, 2009 at
I opened the same a/c for my niece also…hehe! Its since beginning of this year
U’re one good aunt, I guess opening acc is the job of parents!
December 7th, 2009 at
I salute you for opening a savings account for baby XJ. Sikit2 lama2 jadi bukit…
Unfortunately I don’t subscribe to Parenthood magazine. Do they have an online version?
yeah I hope it’ll grow to an amount which is sufficient for his study in future. I don’t think they hv online version but I know they have website on topics for Doc & parents. Quite informative.

Gratz! Yeah agree with you - have to teach them the value of money since young. I found that lots of young children, will just know how to spend money, but cannot feel how the parents work “hard” to earn the money for living. But I think maybe also cannot just blame the children, some parents will just buy fancy and expensive stuff for the children. To me is not so much about how much to pay, but whether worth paying for it or not.
yeah I won’t simply buy him things for no reason & I hope he will understand +appreciate what we’ve done for him
December 7th, 2009 at
We’ve opened a savings account for Gwen too but RHB never give any piggy bank. When our kids grow up, they will have lots of cash..haha.
Congrats on your selected article.
I thought every bank will give a coin box when open a kiddy account?… Thx Mummy Gwen

yeah I hope he will appreciate that

Wow Dora, congratulation for being selected in the Parenthood magazine.
Thx Amy
December 7th, 2009 at
CONGRATS on the winning! hope you win MORE MORE MORE in the future…
btw, we also open an account for rachael…but after she turned 1 yrs old…good to save their money and good not to let them know too *wink*
Thx June
yeah make it a secret & surprise him when he grows up an adult!
December 7th, 2009 at
yes agree with your approach.. education is expensive, and it’s just right that you start with the savings for your kids future.. rather than to worry later, i think a compulsory saving every month now till 18 years later would be sufficient..
wow, congratulations on your article being posted.. so what have the magazine rewarded you??
yeah everything needs money so at least we have something to “backup”. Thx SK, I guess there’ll be some baby stuffs
December 7th, 2009 at
That’s a cute tiger-bank! To remember that next year is the year of Tiger! So perfect!
oh yeah it’s year of tiger 2010!
December 7th, 2009 at
Hi!Yes, opening a savings account at an early age is good.Once they are older, we can also inculcate the saving habits in them.Congrats on your win in parenthood!it’s a good write up!
yeah I’ll definitely nurture the habit of saving on him. Thx Cherish Tulips
December 8th, 2009 at
Agree with you that it’s very important to start the habit of saving since young :-).
And congratulations for being selected! Wow, that’s surely something to be proud about. I hope you have kept that article in good condition for XJ to read when he’s old enough. Your article will be a motivation for little XJ to be a good little boy, even when he thinks Santa is not looking!
yeah we almost can’t get anything started if there’s not enough of money! Thx BoeyJoey
yeah I’ll keep it properly & let XJ reads next time. And I really hope he will be good boy ‘coz he is getting very much naughty now!
December 8th, 2009 at
Congrats, Dora! I love the way you explained about Santa despite the wrong spelling. The article you wrote was awesome! You deserved it.
Oh you’re right, the tiger bank doesn’t look kiddy-ish heeeheee…
Thx Crystal
I have one tiger bank when my mom opened acc for me very long time ago, that was much cuter than this one!
December 9th, 2009 at
Yes, I agreed with you on children’s saving. Start as soon as possible.
and congrats on your write up. Wow!! It must feel good to have your write up published, huh?
Btw, I have an award for you, do grab it soon…..
yeah start it b4 it’s late. Thx Rose
Oh award for me? Thx again… will go & collect later!
December 9th, 2009 at
not telling him until it is 18 might be difficult. after a few years, you will need to tell him why you are taking all his angpaos n stuff. =)
oh my plan is that this acc is a separate one from his own saving next time so that he won’t know we hv an acc for him!
December 9th, 2009 at
Congratulations on your letter being chosen to be published!
Thx Sunnymama
December 9th, 2009 at
Congrats to you, Dora on your article being selected!
I’ve done the same with my daughter’s angpow monies..save them for her future use.
Thx Mama Mia
yeah save now & use that next time!
December 10th, 2009 at
good move! I also had my bank acount as a baby, mom & dad prepared all those for me.
wow u r so lucky!
December 10th, 2009 at
Go open one more acc, so one is can not touch at all, and anther one can use if got emergency
hong leong bank is good! Always got freebie, now even running a contest with grand prize to New Zealand.
I guess that’s enough for us ~ me & hubby with personal saving acc + FD + joint acc which is for household purposes like money spend on vacation & baby stuffs etc kind of thing. So this is our contribution to XJ acc which we decided not to tell him now, he may have his own when he grows older
December 11th, 2009 at
